There are certain things your Brampton real estate agent
will ask you to do when you hire him or her to help you sell your house in preparation for your move to Gatineau. They'll want you to perform any little repairs that need doing. They'll suggest that some redecoration is in order. And they'll get you to clear out all your clutter. Removing clutter is something that needs to be done anyway when you move house, and it immeasurably improves buyer's first impressions. Here's how to get started.
Leave No Corner Untouched
Clearing out clutter is a top to bottom, entire house process that can take upwards of a week, so don't expect to get it all done in an afternoon. People often don't notice how much stuff they've built up until it's time to put up their Yorkville condos for sale. You'll need to go through every room in the house: the kitchen, the kids' rooms, the basement, even the yard, but with especial emphasis on the garage (if you have one) which tends to be the epicenter of clutter epidemics.
Be Ruthless
Each person has to decide for themselves what they're willing to part with, but it's better to err on the side of getting rid of more rather than less. You will thank yourself later when you have fewer boxes to move from Gatineau to the new Mississauga condo. Resist the urge to keep anything you worry you "might” need. If you haven't used it in the last three months, you probably don't need it. If you didn't remember that you even had it, you definitely don't need it.
Donate to Charity
Green-minded people can have some trouble with clutter-clearing because getting rid of so much stuff seems like such a waste. And it is, which is why anything that has any use left in it should be donated to charity rather than taken to the dump. Even furniture that seems too ratty to pawn off on charities can be left by the curb. It will almost certainly be picked up by destitute college students looking to furnish the Toronto condos they rent. Recycle anything that can't be donated. Sometimes this involves disassembling things to remove bits of plastic, metal or paper. Make sure batteries and electronics are properly recycled and paints and chemicals safely disposed of (NOT poured down the drain).
Rent Storage
There are no nooks and crannies in your home that buyers will not want to pry into when they're looking for houses in Toronto for sale so whatever clutter you can't part with shouldn't be kept on-site but in a storage locker rented for the purpose. They come in various sizes and are generally quite reasonably priced.
